BiographyInformation recorded on the reverse of 00034311. "Mason, Frank Henry R L, RBM 1876 - 1965 / Born in Seaton Carew, co. Durham, October 1876, he was / educated on the training ship Conway and went to sea, later / becoming an Engineer in the ship building industry at Leeds / and Hartlepool. He took up marine painting, mainly in / watercolour and during the first world war served in the / Royal Naval volunteer reserve as a Lieutenant. He exhibited / at the royal academy from 1900. He also illustrated books, / designed posters for railway companies, and did a series of / advertisements for "Senior service" cigarettes. / Examples of his work can be found at Dundee Art Gallery, / the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and the Gray / Art Gallery, Hartlepool."
