BiographyElizabeth Isabella Georgiana Dixon was born in New South Wales in 1824, the elder daughter of Francis and Isabella Dixon. Her father, at the time of his marriage in April 1823, was the Commander of the ship "Venerable", and her mother was the sister of John Oxley, R.N., Surveyor General of the Colony from 1812. Elizabeth Dixon journeyed to England in 1842 when she was 18 and stayed with her father's brother in London. In 1847, she married Thomas Grose, curate and later rector of St Peter's, Cornhill. She was married a second time in 1869, to John Twells, rector of Gamston, near Retford. Elizabeth Dixon died aged 83, and was survived by one son and two daughters by her first husband, and thirteen grandchildren.
