Susan Tingay
Susan Avery grew up in Adelaide and spent much of her childhood exploring the natural world of the South Australian coast and outback. Studying science at university broadened her knowledge and understanding of nature and later studies focused on wildlife behaviour and ecology. At the same time, Avery was involved in conservation and environmental issues and began to paint local flora and fauna. With her scientific background, she was able to capture the intricate diversity and detail of her subject and art became an avenue for her conservation efforts.
Avery’s work continues to be inspired by the natural world, particularly that near Perth in Western Australia and on the coast of southern Eyre Peninsula near Coffin Bay in South Australia. She specialises in landscapes and wildlife paintings and is actively involved in forest conservation and environmental issues.
