America's Cup Organising Committee

BiographyThis memorabilia provides research and display material on the 1992 series that adds to the current holdings documenting the 1983, 1987 and 1995 races, whilst also reflecting the commercial nature of the race.

The 1992 America's Cup challenge was held off San Diego, California. In the trial races (the citizen cup) AMERICA III defeated STARS AND STRIPES to be the cup defender. Il MORO DE VENEZIA, the Italian entry defeated a large group of international syndicates in the Louis Vuitton Cup to become the America's Cup challenger. In the finals AMERICA III defeated Il MORO DE VENEZIA to win the America's Cup.
