Anne Zahalka
born 1957
Zahalka trained as a photographer at East Sydney Technical College and Sydney College of the Arts. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New South Wales in 1994. She has received several fellowships and awards including Kunstlerhaus Bethanian, Berlin 1986. In the late 1980s her works appropriated images from old master paintings, photographs and iconic Australian paintings. She played with themes of nostalgia, translating familiar images into contemporary photomedia, producing a new way of seeing something we have become familiar with.
