Gail Mabo

BiographyGail Mabo is a dancer, choreographer, actor and visual artist who was born in Queensland in 1965. Mabo is the daughter of celebrated land rights activist Eddie Mabo and in 2005 she directed the stage show KOIKI which was based on the life of her father.

She started her dance career with Townsville's New Blood Dance Troupe in 1979 and performed with them for four years before studying dance at the National Aboriginal and Islander Dance Skill Development Association (NAISDA) in Sydney from 1984 to 1987. Mabo later gained a Certificate IV in Visual Arts at the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE and then went on to gain a Diploma of Visual Arts graduating in 2007. Mabo has enjoyed success as a visual artist and has had two solo exhibitions in 2006 and 2007 at the Perc Tucker Regional Art Gallery in Townsville as well as being a part of numerous group exhibition.
