DescriptionMARGARET-TWAITS moored in Hobart.
This photograph was taken during a Tasmanian cruise undertaken by the Clark brothers on board MALUKA.HistoryThe MARAGARET-TWAITS was a island ketch based in Hobart, Tasmania. It was operated by the Casimaty Brothers as a trawler before WWII before becoming a regular on the Bass Strait Islands run.
In March 1946 the MARAGARET-TWAITS made local news:
RECORD FISH CONSIGNMENT
What is believed to be a record shipment of fish by a Tasmanian firm was made yesterday by Casimaty Bros., of Hobart.
About 30 tons of crayfish, barracouta, and shark were placed aboard the ketch MARAGARET-TWAITS for the Melbourne market.
This consignment, surplus to Tasmanian requirements, is expected to arrive in time for Friday's sales. The value is about £3,500.
The MARAGARET-TWAITS was operated before the war as a trawler by Casimaty Bros. After extended naval use the craft has just been returned to its owners."
