    DescriptionA framed print features image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Denis Fildes. Handwritten text reads "Queen Elizabeth from the lounge of SS CHANTGE, A - O Line, Captain E B Beeham, RD, RANR (s)" HistorySS CHANGTE was built in 1925 in Hong Kong for the Australian Oriental Line which operated primarily between Australia and Hong Kong. CHANGTE contained a triple expansion engine and could travel at 13 knots requiring a single crew and functioning as a passenger and cargo steamship. In 1939 CHANGTE was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and converted to a Naval Stores Issuing Ship and was known as RFA CHANGTE. It became one of the first ships to be transformed for war service at Cockatoo Island in Sydney. At the end of World War II, it was returned to the Australian Oriental Line and scrapped in August 1961. SignificanceThe SS CHANGTE had a long history operating Australian waters both in peace and during times of war.
