DescriptionA copy of Parade magazine from August, 1966. Parade was a monthly publication featuring stories on history, predominantly from Australia.
On the cover of this issue is a painted image of King Kalakaua of Hawaii, seated in a cane chair. The accompanying story inside the magazine is titled 'Polynesian Playboy'.HistoryParade magazine was an early form of popular historical writing. It presented stories in a way that would interest a wide audience. The cover of Parade often featured brightly coloured works from local artists and resembled movie posters or book covers. Stories presented were a mix of the unique and more factual coverage. In this August 1966 edition some of the stories covered are 'Murder at Yass', 'Wild Bill Hickok', 'and Femme Fatale' and 'Con-Man Convict'.
In addition to these more popular stories were others such as the wreck of the PERICLES and the battle at Guadalcanal.
SignificanceThe Australian Parade magazine featured a mixture of historical stories from Australasia with topical contemporary stories set locally and from around the world.
