DescriptionCatholic Saint Madonna di Capo d'Orlando that belonged to Father Donald Hughes, parish priest of St Patricks church in Fremantle which is used annually by the local Italian community to celebrate the blessing of the fishing fleet.HistoryItalian fishermen immigrating to Western Australia in the 1940s brought their traditional fishing festivities and religious invocations with them when they arrived in Fremantle. Families from Molfetta (south-east coast of Italian mainland) and Capo d'Orlando (north-east coast of Sicily) brought the Madonnas to Fremantle.
