DescriptionThis coloured print, from Banks' Florilegium, depicts Pittosporum ferrugineum, also known as Rusty pittosporum which occurs in northern parts of the Northern Territory and on east cost of Queensland from the south east to Cape York Peninsula. It is also found in southern coastal Queensland.
This print is a reproduction of a drawing made during Cook's first voyage to the Pacific and Australia on HMB ENDEAVOUR. The drawing was based on a specimen collected on Palm Island, 7 June 1770.
The original illustration was sketched by artist Sydney Parkinson, and was later painted by J. Cleveley and engraved by C. White.
