Published by Smith, Elder & Co, London in 1905 it is an account of Scott's first expedition to Antarctica in the DISCOVERY in 1901-1904.HistoryCaptain Robert Falcon Scott published his report on his first expedition to the Antarctic in two volumes. In the years 1901-1904 the British Antarctic Expedition (also known as the DISCOVERY expedition) undertook a major scientific program in the Antarctic. A significant aim of the expedition was also to be the first humans to reach the geographic South Pole. However they did not achieve this, having to turn back some 850 kms from their goal. It was his second expedition of 1910 that is most remembered. Scott was beaten to the South Pole by the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen and along with Wilson, Oates, Evans and Bowers, perished on the return leg. These volumes detail in every fashion the preparation for Scott's first expedition, the voyage south and the expedition itself of 1902.
