DescriptionThis 'Helicopter mail from Antarctica' envelope was sent to New Zealand. It features the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) at Davis 29 March 1999. It also features a red ink stamp which reads 'Davis - 68° 35'S, 77° 58'E Established 13 Jan 1957. Closed 25 Jan 65, reopened 15 Feb 69'. Davis is Australia's most southerly Antarctic station which opened in January 1957.
SignificanceThis collection is significant in representing a broad range of Antarctic philately interests (the study of stamps and postal history). It covers most of the countries who have bases in the white continent and are signatories to the Antarctic Treaty, including all of the Australian bases.
