DescriptionBow decoration including the Norwegian national arms from the barque DANIEL, built 1897.HistoryThe DANIEL was Norwegian- built and owned. In 1918-1919 it was registered in Sydney and was engaged in the cross-Tasman timber trade. At the end of the era of sail, bow ornaments such as this began to replace three-dimensional life-figures. SignificanceAustralian-related examples of bow decorations are rare. This one shows its Norwegian origins.
