DescriptionHer Royal Highness Marina the Duchess of Kent officially renamed HMAS PERTH on 10 July 1939 at Portsmouth effecting its transfer from the Royal Navy to the Royal Australian Navy. The cruiser had formally been HMS AMPHION. She is standing giving a speech on the quarterdeck. Captain Harold B Farncomb, in command of HMAS PERTH, is one of the officers around her.HistoryOn 29 June 1939 Captain Harold B Farncomb MVO, RAN joined the HMS AMPHION at Portsmouth to begin preparations for its transfer to the Royal Australian Navy. The transfer was concluded at the renaming ceremony held on 10 July 1939 when Her Royal Highness Marina, Duchess of Kent, offically renamed the cruiser HMAS PERTH on the quarterdeck of the ship.
