Brass plaque at the bottom of the frame reads 'Mr D B Fullarton, Chairman and Managing Director 1922 - 1930.'HistorySydney Morning Herald, Thursday 7 December, 1933 MR. D. B. FULLARTON. MELBOURNE, Wednesday. The death occurred at a private hospital in Melbourne on Monday of Mr Duncan Browne Fullarton, of Mornington, at the age of 73 years He was formerly chairman of directors of Mcilwraith, McEacharn, Ltd, but retired from that position three years ago. Mr Fullarton was bom at Ayr Scotland and arrived in Austialia in 1885 For many years he was stationed in Brisbane, but later joined the Arm of Mcllwiaith, McEachain, Ltd, and was appointed manager of the Fremantle office of the firm. When Mcilwraith, McEacharn, Ltd, obtained the contract to supply the Spanish Government with swords during the Spanish-American war, Mr Fullarton was sent to Manila, in the Philippine Islands. Mr Fullarton was later appointed to the board of the firm, and in 1922 was elected chairman. At the request of the Japanese Government, Mr. Fullarton was appointed honorary Consul for Japan In 1914, retaining that position until 1924. Mrs Fullarton, one son, and five daughters survive him.SignificanceMcIlwraith McEacharn Limited originated in London in 1875, going on to become one of the largest and most successful companies operating in Australia throughout the following century.
