HistoryFirst stanza: When a young Jack Tar goes ashore to have a spree, There's a real good time in store. Then it's clear the decks for there's nobody but he's got a chance with girls ashore. With his monthly pay he will shout "Hooray" Till the rafters ring up above, And with all his mates of the quarter deck, Each with his arms around a nice girl's neck, He'll shout "If you want to go to the land of love, Second stanza: As he roams the town with his fellows in a line, They encounter some young swell. 'Tis a different "swell" to the one upon the brine, So they promptly give him "well" He says "By Jove what a fearful drove of wetched sailors you are" But they all heaved to with a wicked grin, And spliced his jib boom till his hatch fell in, And made him join in this song of the young Jack Tar. Chorus: Follow me boys, Follow me boys I know the way to go I’ve a notion on the ocean Things are far too slow Boys we're sporty Girls we're naughty But now we're off the sea If hearts are light and all the boys go right There'll be dirty weather ashore tonight. So hoist your slacks and follow me.
