DescriptionThe 'Great surfing issue - including giant color surf map of Australia' of Everybody's magazine published 18 November 1964.HistoryEverybody's magazine was first published in 1961. Produced by the Packer-owned Consolidated Press Company, it evolved from an earlier Packer tabloid magazine, Weekend, which was popular during the 1950s. It was initially marketed as a 'women’s' magazine, featuring women on the covers, with typical content including celebrity stories, cooking, interior decorating and fashion. From 1963 the magazine began to change its profile, focusing on pop music, movie and television personalities, with the aim of drawing in the teenage market. The magazine also covered a range of social trends, and in 1964 produced articles on surf culture. The magazine ceased publication in 1968.SignificanceThe images in this edition of Everybody's magazine reveal popular beach fashions, surfing identities and aspects surf culture in the mid 1960s.
