DescriptionCopy of the Pacific Post, Daily newspaper of the British Pacific Fleet No 108, Dated Sunday, November 4 1945, free to the fleet. Headlines include `Goering...The Good Natured Clown...Waits on fate', `Your Record's Pigeon-Holed', and other items of domestic news, sports and cartoon on back page.HistoryThe newsroom of British Navy newspaper 'Pacific Post' was based in Sydney and its editor was Lieutenant John Willis who had been a Fleet Street journalist prior to the war. The paper aimed to bring daily news to troops in the Pacific and covered events from Britain and the Pacific War front. The paper was produced by English 'newspaper men' who were serving in all ranks of the Navy. The Pacific Post had its own printing press, art department and a newsroom with 'a Nelson touch'. Copies were loaded into aircraft after printing and delivered to bases across the Pacific where it was distributed to sailor’s eager to know the latest news and when their theatre of war would be ending. SignificanceThe Pacific Post newspaper was the first time in naval history that the Royal Navy produced its own daily newspaper.
