DescriptionA souvenir sailor doll from the cruise ship IBERIA.HistoryP&O commissioned four ships after WWII and one of these, ordered in 1951, was the IBERIA.
The IBERIA began sailing in 1954 with a passenger capacity of 679 in first class and 735 in tourist class. Its maiden voyage was to Australia via Aden, Mumbai, Colombo, Fremantle, Western Australia, Adelaide, South Australia, and Melbourne, Victoria, before arriving at Sydney in New South Wales, Australia on 1 November 1954. The IBERIA would continue this route for most of its working life.
In 1958 extended IBERIA's route from Sydney to ports on the other side of the Pacific, as far as San Francisco, California and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Over the next decade, IBERIA became prone to technical and mechanical issues, causing ongoing repairs, delays, and accidents. Because of these IBERIA was taken out of service in 1972 and scrapped.
