DescriptionThis menu comes from the last Christmas held on board the first HMAS MELBOURNE prior to its final departure from Australia.HistoryThe Town class light cruiser HMAS MELBOURNE served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1913 to 1928. The cruiser saw service during World War I in the Pacific Ocean as part of the offensive against the German East Asia Squadron, took part in the convoy of troopships to Egypt, patrolled the Atlantic from Canada to Brazil, and the North Sea as part of the British Grand Fleet. MELBOURNE left Australia in February 1928 for the last time, was decommissioned on 23 April in England and broken up for scrap in 1929.
