DescriptionA dinner menu for the SS ARCADIA from 10 October, 1964. It features a painting of a camellia by the Australian botanical artist, Paul Jones (1921 - 1997).HistoryThe SS ARCADIA was built for P&O for their Britain - Australia run and took her maiden voyage in 1954. This service aboard the ARCADIA only lasted five years however as passenger demand for this route declined and P&O were forced to refit her for the cruising trade on what was known as the trans-Pacific route. In 1975/76 she operated full time out of Sydney and was by then a one class cruise ship. She was scrapped in Taiwan in 1979.SignificanceShipboard menus were the most common type of souvenir collected by passengers. They tended to have decorative covers featuring exotic holiday destinations or native flora and fauna. It was also popular to have fellow passengers to sign them.
