HistoryUSS SANGAMON, Passaic-class ironclad monitor constructed for the Union Navy during the second year of the American Civil War in 1862 and used mainly for blockading the Confederate States. Renamed USS JASON in 1869. Recommissioned in 1898 for the Spanish American War, afterwards put on reserve until sold in 1904.
