DescriptionBowles Naval Flags is a recognition manual for the warships of the period. It contains 125 hand coloured engravings of flags with their titles.HistoryThe firm of Bowles & Carver flourished in London from 1793 until 1832. Upon the death of Carrington Bowles (1724-1793), his firm was taken over by his son Henry Carrington Bowles (1763-1830). Henry Bowles and Samuel Carver published prints and maps from old copper plates and disseminated them throughout the world. Interestingly they often used more than two languages for their print plates which denotes that they were aspiring to sell them to a larger international market.
