DescriptionLogbook of the LOGAN from a voyage from Boston - Sydney - Manila - Boston. Markers on corners, depicts voyage from Boston - Sydney - Manila - Boston, owned by Williams, master Symer or Simmons. LOGAN arrived in Sydney from Manila in October/November 1839.HistoryShipping records in Sydney show that the 349 ton LOGAN arrived in Sydney on the 7 October 1839. The master was 'Symmes' and its cargo consisted of lumber, oars, hops and tobacco. The ship is listed as leaving Sydney for Manila on 16 November with a single passenger, Mr T Mobersley.SignificanceAlthough little is known about the American ship LOGAN, it is representative of the ever increasing world trade flowing into and out of Australian ports. This trade not only stimulated the economy but put Australia on the shipping route, unheard of just 50 years previously.
