DescriptionOfficial Handbook of the Port of Sydney, New South Wales published by the Sydney Harbour Trust Commissioners. Contents include a history of the port, information on wharfage, facilities, docking accommodation, coal and bunkering, tides and weather, licensed vessels, pumping and salvage plant, signals in use in the port, table of distances, harbour rates, charges and dues. The book also contains five folded maps: 1. Birds eye view of the port of Sydney, 1919; 2. Wharf accommodation of the port of Sydney; 3. Birds eye view showing new wharfage scheme, Walsh Bay, Sydney, 1918; 4. Birds eye view of terminal grain elevator and proposed cargo berths, Glebe Island, Port Jackson, NSW, 1915; 5. Birds eye view showing new wharves and approaches, Jones Bay, Pyrmont, 1919.SignificanceThe Sydney Harbour Trust regularly published these books in the first decades of the 20th century. The 1924 edition is particularly interesting for the developments of the wharves.
