DescriptionThis tureen cover is a souvenir of the Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company. It features the company flag. The Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company began in 1852 and was taken over in 1891.HistoryThe Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company was formed in 1853 initially only operating steamers between Sydney and Hobart. It expanded operations and began operating very sucessfully on regular services across Bass Strait until the 1880s when competition from other companies began to rival it.
