DescriptionA mahogany medicine chest engraved with the initials 'E.J'. The lid opens to reveal the top drawer which is divided into 14 wooden compartments and lined with red velvet, contains 15 glass medicine bottles. The bottom drawer is opened with a flush brass handle at base of the chest. This lower drawer is also compartmentalised and lined with velvet. It contains various items of medical equipment including scales, weights, mortar and pestle, tubes of ointment and pills. The medicine chest was brought to Australia from England by a member of Rex Tilbrook's family in the late 19th century.
