There are three individual vignettes featuring men of the Victorian Naval Forces titled: guard charge swords; officers and men; and gun drill.HistoryThe Australian colony of Victoria was one of the first to have its own naval force to protect its coastline and shipping in conjunction with the British Royal Navy. A permanent force was established - the Victorian Navy - and alongside it was a part-time force of reservists. This Victorian Naval Reserve (also called the Victorian Naval Brigade) was divided into two divisions, Sandridge and Williamstown and numbered more than 200 men.
