DescriptionThis plastic bag was made by Kleinerts in the 1960s as packaging for its extensive line of rubber swimming caps. The front of the bag features the slogan 'millinery for mermaids', together with four stylised images depicting the cap being worn on a cruise ship, water skiing, on the beach and at the pool.HistoryDuring the 1960s extravagantly decorated rubber swimming caps were very much in vogue. Often designed by milliners, caps were brightly coloured, appliquéd with flowers or ribbons, or moulded into shapes.SignificanceThe bag is representative of beachwear fashion packaging from the 1960s.
