DescriptionObject is the hull of the double ended carvel built surfboat BOOFA. It was originally made from cedar, with new additions made from Kauri and plywood.HistoryBOOFA is a double edged carvel built surfboat. It was built in 1946 by Towns Brothers Newcastle for the North Curl Curl S.L.S.C. and was paid for by Manly Amusement Centre, the name deriving from the sponsors dog Boofa. In the 1950's BOOFA was given to the Narooma S.L.S.C and then saw service with the Pambula S.L.S.C. BOOFA was displayed by Eden Whaling Museum as a boat similar to the whale boats used in that era, that is as a double ended and steered from a single oar from the stern whaler. By that stage BOOFA was in a dilapidated state and required restoration work. This then carried out by the Department of Corrective Services at Long Bay.SignificanceBOOFA is a piece of Surf Life Saving heritage and is possibly the oldest surf boat in New South Wales.
