DescriptionEngraving titled 'Entrance to Port Jackson, New South Wales' , removed from the Illustrated London News, 10 October 1863. View shows the view from outside Sydney Heads looking into the harbour.HistoryThe Macquarie Lighthouse on the 'outer South Head' is clearly visible from the artist's easterly perspective; however, the Hornby light, built in 1858 and located on the 'inner South Head' is not depicted, even though in reality it should be visible from the artist's position - assuming he was in a vessel approaching the entrance to Port Jackson from a direction due east, as indicated by the position of the light or beacon at its location 'inside' the entrance, i.e. to the south of Middle Head.
