DescriptionThe rigging plan (scale 1/8 = 1 foot) for SS KURANDA (No. 199) built by Gourlay Bros. & Co. of Dundee for the Australasian United Steam Navigation Company (AUSN).HistorySS KURANDA was 928 gross tons short sea coastal vessel built by Gourlay Bros., Dundee. It was sold December 1926 to Teo Hoo Lye of Singapore and scrapped in July 1936.SignificanceAs industry and trade expanded up and down the east coast, steamers to service the regions and inland river ways grew in demand. Companies such as the Australasian United Steam Navigation Co. were vital to keep waterways accessible to Sydney. Many of these businesses merged over time to form new ventures.
