DescriptionEtching titled 'Watson's Bay' by Frederic Casemero Terry who specialised in scenes of New South Wales throughout the 1850's and 1860's.HistoryWatsons Bay, located on Sydney Harbour, was a popular location from the outset of the colonisation of Sydney. It proved a suitable base for many maritime industries and boats moored there whilst awaiting berths at the wharfs in the main harbour. Its outlook, small beach and views over the harbour, made it a popular location to visit for both visitors and locals alike and eventually wealthy inhabitants built homes there. SignificanceFrederic Casemero Terry, as a resident of Sydney, was able to capture images of the city and its outskirts that were popular with locals and at a time of great change. Here we see a tranquil view of Watsons Bay before it became the busy hub it is today.
