DescriptionThis decorated envelope from Boland to his mother depicts an image of an angry Popeye (the sailorman) demolishing Japanese naval vessels. An inscription reads COME ON TOJO WE'RE HUNGRY'. Popeye is shown rising out of the ocean like Neptune and catching and crushing Japanese warships in his hands.HistoryHideki Tojo was a general of the Imperial Japanese Army, the leader of the Imperial Rule Assistance Association, and the 40th Prime Minister of Japan during much of World War II, from October 17, 1941 to July 22, 1944.
