HistoryThe AORANGI was originally owned by the Union Steamship Company from 1924 - 1931, and operated by its subsidary company the Canadian - Australasian Line from 1931 - 1953. Launched in 1924 for the Vancouver - Australia passenger route, for many years she was the only service to North America from Australia and New Zealand.
AORANGI was fitted out as a troopship in 1941 and chartered until 1948, when she was returned to her owners.
During her time as a troopship she was involved in the evacuation of civilians from Singapore, as a hospital ship and a supply ship to other vessels.
SignificanceThe MV AORANGI was a was a trans - Pacific liner from Vancouver to Sydney and a troopship during WWII.
