HistoryOn 9 February 1928 HMAS MELBOURNE (I) sailed from Sydney for the United Kingdom via Ceylon, the Suez Canal and Malta. It arrived at Portsmouth on 12 April 1928 and was paid off on 23 April 1928. Its ship's company was transferred to the newly comissioned HMAS AUSTRALIA (II). HMAS AUSTRALIA (II) departed Portsmouth on 3 August 1928 and proceeding via Montreal, Quebec, Halifax, Boston, New York, Annapolis, Kingston, Balboa, Tahiti, Wellington and Brisbane, reached Sydney on 23 October 1928.
