History4-masted steel barque THISTLEBANK, built by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow in 1891 for A. Weir & Co (Bank Line) for Andrew Weir's Pacific grain trade. Sold to Norwegian interests in 1914 and sunk by a German submarine on 30 June 1915 during WWI during a voyage from Bahia Blanca to Queenstown with a cargo of wheat.
