DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [199] consists of newspaper clippings collected by Melbourne swimmer William Cavanagh relating to famous swimmers and divers at Australian and international races, carnivals and events.HistoryWilliam Cavanagh was a Victorian state title holder and member of the Melbourne swimming club who surfed at Lorne and Torquay in the 1930s. William was a founding member of the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club. As a 16 year old boy William Cavanagh was known as the "Peter Pan" of swimming, he competed against Frank Beaurepaire and won the Victorian 220 yards championship in 1925.
