DescriptionThese 24 documents were collected by Brian Fairbairn-Carterr and relate to the Tanac Class Tug CPL-1 (later named the ILUKA). They consist of 2 delivery tickets; 1 voyage ticket; 2 log books; 2 order books; 4 equipment invoices; 1 Declaration about postal delivery; 1 inventory of a tug; 2 passenger and 3 freight lists; 5 equipment receipts and 1 letter to the general manager of Coconut Products Ltd. The documents span the period 1948 – 1951.
HistoryTanac Class Tugs were small tugs designed during World War II for the British Navy. They were designed to undertake harbour service at ports around the world, and in particular designed to tow barges and lighters next to operational ships to supply the Navy with stores, ammunition and fuel. They also played a key role in salvage, fire-fighting and rescue. A large number of Tanac class tugs were built in Canada during the War.
