DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [254] consists of Australian and international regatta and championship programs collected by distinguished Australian rower Kevyn Parke Webb. It includes programs from events held in New Zealand, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Chile, Poland, Argentina, Italy, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, United States, Malta, Canada, Ireland, England, Burma, Hong Kong, Japan and Indonesia. Also included are programs from Queensland, Victorian, New South Wales and Tasmanian state events, and rowing clubs of Sydney such as Leichhardt, Haberfield, Mosman, Glebe, Balmain and Parramatta. There are a small number of programs from university and secondary school regattas including Head of the River, and Saint Ignatius and St Josephs College rowing clubs.HistoryKevyn Parke Webb’s distinguished rowing career began in 1938 when he joined Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney. In 1939 he won the Walker and Hall cup and went on to represent Australia in the New Zealand Centennial Games of 1939-1940. Webb represented Australia at numerous games, including the 1950 empire games in Auckland, Canterbury Centennial Games 1950 - 1951, Cardiff Empire Games 1957 - 1958, and was team captain for the Australian squad during the Olympic Games at Lake Albano, Rome. Webb appears to have competed until the 1960s, being heavily involved with rowing club committees and associations from the 1940s through to 1987, when he became president of the New South Wales Rowing Association. In 1990, he was awarded the Order of Australia for service to rowing.SignificanceThis material collected by rower and administrator Kevyn Parke Webb reveals aspects of the administrative and financial structure of the sport of rowing in New South Wales and other states of Australia from the 1890s.
