DescriptionA black and white photograph showing the winners of the SYDNEY - EMDEN Fleet Challenge Cup from HMAS SYDNEY.History The annual Fleet Regatta was generally held in Hobart after the Hobart Regatta although it was held in other ports too. It featured a variety of races between ships. This trophy was awarded to the winners of the cutters' racing crews over a two mile distance. The SYDNEY - EMDEN Fleet Challenge Cup was presented to the winner of the annual Service Cutters' Race from 1921 until 1961. Winners included 1921 HMAS SYDNEY, 1922 HMAS SYDNEY, 1923 HMAS SYDNEY, 1924 HMAS MELBOURNE, 1925 HMAS SYDNEY and 1926 HMAS SYDNEY. Wilfred Boshier is shown on the far left on the back row. SignificanceThis photograph is part of a collection of material chronicling the service of Wilfred William Boshier. Leading Seaman Boshier served in the Royal Navy and later in the Royal Australian Navy where he served during World War II and became a naval diver.
