DescriptionA photograph of Mr Pelly Fry posing in a tropical garden featuring various varietys of palm trees in Colombo.HistoryIt is likely that this man is Mr Arthur Pelly Fry (1872 - 1923), an empolyee of Messrs Carson and Co., a company founded in Colombo in 1857. Based in the Australian buildings, Carson and Co. exported Ceylon tea and imported coal in addition to being shipping agents for numerous shipping lines. SignificanceThis image is a part of the Captain Robert McKilliam collection. Captain McKilliam worked for the Aberdeen White Star Line for 32 years and sailed aboard such famous clipper ships as SALAMIS and THERMOPYLAE. He moved to Sydney in 1913 where he served as Assistant Wharf Master on Darling Island.
