William Hatherell
British, 1855 - 1928
Born 18 October 1855 in London, he first worked in the City. Studied at the R.A. Schools 1877–9. Exhibited at the R.A. and R.W.S. from 1879, showing portraits, genre and illustrations. Worked for Cassell's, who sent him to Australia to illustrate Picturesque Australia, for The Graphic, and also for American magazines.
On his return he lived at Brondesbury, where he laid out a garden and used it as a background for many of his pictures. R.I. 1888. Died in London 7 December 1928.
