British artist best known for her watercolours of landscapes and exotic locales. Ella Du Cane was born in Hobart in the last year of her father's term as Governor (Sir Charles Du Cane was Governor of Tasmania 1869 - 1874). The family returned to England at the end of his term.

Ella Du Cane rose to prominence and financial success after exhibiting at the New Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1893, Queen Victoria herself acquired twenty-six of her works.

Du Cane combined art with travel, this led to her hire by A & C Black to illustrate for their travel guide 'The Italian Lakes' published in 1905. Other collaborations with A & C Black followed.
