George Parkin ChristianNorfolk Islander, 1853 - 1940

George Henry Parkin Christian was born on Pitcairn Island 16 October 1853, 5th child and 4th son of Isaac Christian (Fletcher Christian's grandson) and Miriam Young, grand daughter of mutineer Edward Young. He was the 5th of 16 children. He arrived on Norfolk Island on the MORAYSHIRE on 8 June 1856 with the Pitcairn Islanders who chose to leave Pitcairn for Norfolk Island. He married Augusta Ross Adams (also born on Pitcairn and descended from mutineers John Adams, Edward Young, Matthew Quintal and William McCoy) on 3 March 1874 and they had 8 children. He died on Norfolk Island aged 86 on 28 August 1940.

George Parkin or Parkins Christian as he was often known served on the CHARLES W MORGAN from 1894 to 1913. Among the many ships he sailed on were the Sydney whalers the ROBERT TOWNS (probably early 1870s - Edward Stackpole’s history of the Charles W Morgan p114) and later in 1880s the COSTA RICA PACKET (Aust Town & Country Journal 1890) before he joined the MORGAN at Norfolk Island in 1894.
