BiographyWilliam John Patton McDowell began work in the drawing office of shipbuilders Vickers, in Barrow, England where he became a naval architect. His talent as an artist and designer won him commissions from major shipping lines to paint ship portraits and also design their ship interiors. In World War II he was a war illustrator for the 'Sphere' and broadcast on marine matters for the BBC.
