James Northfield
Australian, 1887 - 1973
Born in 1887 at Inverleigh, Victoria Northfield set up his own commercial studio in the 1930s. He specialised in hand lithographic work and was commissioned to design travel posters by major local and national organisations such as Victorian Government and Australian National Association. His work appeared in billboard advertisements, promotional travel posters and posters relating to World Wars I and II. Northfields works were distributed throughout Australia and overseas. Towards the end of his life he painted impressionistic landscapes in a popular style.
