BiographyKim Thanh was a gold refiner and gold bullion dealer operating out of Saigon and Hanoi in Vietnam, Phnom Penh in Cambodia and in Hong Kong. The company operated 1955 to 1975. It produced thin gold bars (leaves of gold) of very high purity (99.99%) weighing 37.5 grams. Highly portable they were used as means of exchange and to store value before and during the Vietnamese war. After the Vietnam War, the Kim Thanh gold bars were used as portable assets for Vietnamese refugees.
