Herbert Kerr Rooke

BiographyHerbert Kerr Rooke (1872-1944) was a marine painter in oil and gouache, and poster designer. The glint of sunlight on waves is a recurring motif in Rooke's maritime illustrations and his ship portraits seemed to have been produced almost solely for P&O.

Rooke studied at the Royal College of Art in South Kensington and the Slade School. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1898, the Royal Society of British Artists from 1894, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists 1898-1912.
